“Smooth” backing is best used on hard surfaces such as tile, concrete, hardwood or linoleum. “Cleated” backing can help prevent mat movement on low pile commercial grade carpet. (Please note that mats are generally not recommended for use on carpet and may still move with the cleated backing.)
